About Me
Prof. Dr. Anjana (Maharjan) Singh is an esteemed academician at the Nepal Academy of Science & Technology (NAST) since 2010. She has also served as the Executive member of the Special Committee of AASSA, Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) from 2013 to 2019 and again from 2023 onwards. Additionally, she is a former Head of the Central Department of Microbiology at Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal, and a Post-Doctoral researcher at the University of Virginia, USA.
Dr. Singh holds a B.Sc. in Biology and an M.Sc. in Microbiology from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. She obtained her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New-Delhi, India in 2004. Her expertise includes water and food microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases, and plant health. Throughout her career, Dr. Singh has held numerous leadership positions, including Executive Member of the Nepalese Society of Microbiology, President of Filters for Families Nepal (FFF Nepal), and Academician of NAST. She is a life member of the Nepal Biotechnology Society and has served as a board member of various committees at Tribhuvan University, South Asian University in New Delhi, and NAST.
Dr. Singh has been honored with various awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from Tribhuvan University, the Fulbright Scholarship from the United States Government, and the International Foundation for Science Grant from Sweden. She has published a total of 131 papers in various national and international peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters, and general/proceedings publications. Dr. Singh is also an experienced supervisor, having supervised 107 Master’s theses and guided six Ph.D. candidates to completion, with three ongoing.
Aside from her academic work, Dr. Singh is also passionate about women in science and is the Coordinator of the Women Scientists Forum Nepal (WSFN) at NAST. She has attended various conferences and workshops worldwide and has been a peer reviewer for twelve journals.
